A "CR School" will be held on Sat. Aug.9th at the Red Cross Building 100 Edgewood Rd., Asheville, NC. This is an opportunity for prospective CRs ($30) to qualify and existing CRs ($20) to update their qualifications. Registration will begin at 9am and we should be done before 4pm.
There will be two different sections to the school. New CRs will take the core courses on Soil, Fertilization, Pests and Chemicals/ Safety. Existing CRs may choose from these courses or "new" courses on "Growing Roses in Containers", "Shade Tolerant Roses ", or "Disease Resistant Roses of the Southeast". All attendees must attend the seminar on Chemicals/Safety.
New CRs must have 3 years as an ARS member, have completed the application form and the have 3 recommendations from current CRs. The presidents of each local society should have these forms (or you can Click Here for the Application Form or Click Here for the Recommendation Form if you need them). There will be an open-book test after the lectures for new CRs. You need to order a copy of the Consulting Rosarian's Manual from ARS and have it before you come to class, but all material on the test will be covered in the lectures.
If you are interested in attending the CR School, please let me know, fill out the forms and send a check payable to the "Carolina District of the ARS" to me before August 1st. We need money upfront to pay for refreshments (continental breakfast and lunch), the meeting place rental and ARS certificates for the new CRs.
