DIVISION 1 – HORTICULTURE

Rules & Information

  1. Except where specifically indicated, the competition is open to all rose growers, but all exhibitors must be registered with the Conference.  All entries must have been grown by the exhibitor in his or her own private outdoor garden.  Only one person or team from any one garden may enter a class.
  2. Entries will be received from 6:00 am to 9:30 am on Saturday, June 14, 2003.    Judging will begin at 9:45 am.  The prep room will be open at 4:00 am.  The show will open to the public at 12:30 pm.
  3. The show committee will furnish ARS entry tags.  Both top and bottom portions of the tag must be completely filled out.  Entry tags must be made for each specimen except for collections shown in one container, English Boxes, and Artist’s Pallets; on these entries use one entry tag with the varieties listed on the back.  Challenge tags will also be available.
  4. Exhibits will be shown in miniature vases furnished by the show committee.  A limited number of English boxes, picture frames, and artist’s pallets will be available.  Exhibitors may also supply their own containers for these classes.  Some classes require that the exhibitor supply their own container.  These are designated in the schedule.
  5. Wedging specimens with green Styrofoam is permitted.  The wedging material may not protrude above the top of the vase or penalization will occur depending on the degree of distraction.  Wedging material will be available.
  6. With the exception of Class 24, Seedling or Sport, rose varieties must be entered under the approved exhibition name of the American Rose Society as listed in Modern Roses XI, the American Rose Magazine, the Handbook for Selecting Roses, or the 2002 Official List of Approved Exhibition Names for Judges and Exhibitors, or the Combined Rose List.  If there are differences among these, the most recent American Rose Society publication will govern.
  7. Exhibitors may make as many entries in section C, E, & F as desired provided that each entry is a different variety.  More than one specimen of the same variety will result in the automatic disqualification of all entries of that variety by that exhibitor in that class.  Exhibitors are limited to one entry in Challenge Class Sections A & D.
  8. Placement of all entries in Sections C, D (except Classes 11 & 12), E, & F will be made by the placement committee.  Challenge class entries in Section A, B, D (classes 11 & 12) will be placed by the exhibitor when accompanied by a member of the Placement Committee. When placing an entry, do not touch or move other entries.  Once placed the exhibitor must promptly exit the Show area.   No one will be permitted in the show area during judging except for those authorized by the Show Committee.
