HORTICULTURE SCHEDULE
The Rosedale Bowl
Competitive Class
Six (6) hybrid teas, not more than two (2) of one variety, correctly named and exhibited in separate containers.
1.
It
shall be placed in competition once each year at a District show or one of the larger
shows held by and affiliated chapter/club.
2.
The Bowl should not be competed for at the same show where the
Nicholson Perpetual Challenge Bowl is in competition.
3.
The Rosedale Bowl shall be competed for in a special class known as the
Rosedale Bowl competitive class open only to members of the American Rose
Society (not just the District).
4.
The winner shall be entitled to keep the trophy in his or her
possession until requested by the Executive Director of the American Rose
Society to then send it to the place of the next competition. Under normal circumstances the Bowl will be
in the possession of each winner nine or more months.
5.
The American Rose Society Rosedale Bowl is an
entry of five (5) hybrid tea blooms, each of a different variety, correctly
named and exhibited in separate containers.
(Donors request that the class be a popular one, which will attract many
entries.) Alternate entries have been

Six (6) hybrid teas, not more than two (2) of one

b.
Six (6) specimens: 2 hybrid teas, 2 grandifloras and
2 floribundas.
6.
The Prizes and Awards Committee of the American Rose
Society shall approve the specifications of the Rosedale Bowl Competitive Class
for each show where it is to be awarded, and the approved wording shall appear
in the published schedule of the show.
7.
Where there are less than three (3) entries
in any American Rose Society trophy class, the class shall not be judged, unless, in the opinion of the judges, the exhibit is
outstanding and merits the honor.
NOTE: Winner’s name must be submitted to ARS Headquarters office for publication in the American Rose Annual. Certificates will be sent to District Directors when requested.
The next Carolina District
Rose shows with ARS rotating awards will be:
Rosedale Bowl in 2006; the
M.S. Hershey Bowl in 2016; the Portland “City of Roses” Trophy in 2021; and the
Rosedale Bowl in 2024.
Classes 1-3 are open only to
American Rose Society members residing in the Carolina District.
Classes 4-10 are open to any
exhibitor residing in the Carolina District.

(7) individual miniature blooms, one per stem, exhibition stage, each a

Class 3 ARS DISTRICT CHALLENGE
CLASS.
Three
(3) one bloom per stem, individual Hybrid Tea or Grandifloras specimens,
exhibition stage, each an ARS winner, each a different variety, exhibited in
separate containers. Each specimen
properly named with individual entry tags per container. Keeper award donated by Rowan Rose Society.
Class 4 MORGAN-PARTAIN CHALLENGE
AWARD.
Five
(5) one bloom per stem, individual Hybrid Tea or Grandiflora specimens,
exhibition stage, each a different variety, exhibited in separate

Class 5 TOM & ILSE ESTRIDGE
FLORIBUNDA CHALLENGE.
Three
(3) one bloom per stem, individual Floribunda specimens, exhibition stage, each
a different variety, exhibited in separate containers. Each specimen properly named with individual
entry tags per container.
Class 6 MILLIE WALTERS MINIATURE
CHALLENGE CLASS.
Five
(5) one bloom per stem, individual miniature roses, exhibition stage, same or different
varieties, correctly named and exhibited in a container provided by the
exhibitor. No wedging material permitted.
Class 7 RACHAEL SMITH DISTRICT
MEMORIAL AWARD.
Five
(5) one bloom per stem Old Garden Roses introduced before 1867. Side buds permitted. Each a different variety exhibited in
separate containers with separate entry tags. Exhibitor must place date of
introduction on the upper right corner of each entry tag. Keeper award donated by Vernon and Nancy
Rickard.
Class 8 DR. GRIFFITH BUCK
DISTRICT TROPHY.
Three
(3) Shrub roses, spray or single bloom, different varieties, displayed in
separate containers. Each specimen
properly named with individual entry tags per container. Keeper award donated by Vernan and Nancy
Rickard.
Class 9 “ROSES UNLIMITED” OLD
GARDEN ROSE BOUQUET.
A
collection of eight or more Old Garden Roses (OGR), same or different
varieties. Roses to be staged in a
container furnished by the exhibitor, and judged by overall beauty. All varieties must be listed on a single
entry tag. Keeper award donated by Roses
Unlimited.
Class 10 MARLYON WRIGHT DISTRICT
MINIFLORA/MINIATURE CHALLENGE TROPHY.
Given
by her children, Donna and David Wright.
A collection of three one-bloom-per-stem miniature and/or miniflora
roses, each a different variety, at exhibition stage, exhibited in separate
containers, individually tagged. (Once
placed it cannot be moved except by the exhibitor.) Keeper award donated by Donna Wright.
