ARRANGEMENT SCHEDULE

 

 

Section A:  Traditional Arrangements

Eligible for the ARS Royalty Award.

 

Class 1: "God Created the Heavens"
Mass or line mass using all fresh plant material.


Class 2: "Let the Earth Yield Seeds"
Line arrangement using fresh and/or dried plant material with fresh roses.

 

Section B:  Modern and Abstract Arrangements

Eligible for the ARS Artist Award.

 

Class 3: "The Firmament of Heaven"
A modern arrangement using fresh and/or dried plant material with fresh roses.

 

Class 4: "The Birds Fly Above the Earth"
An abstract design must have 2 or more abstract qualities.

 

Section C:  Novice Arrangements

Eligible for the Winston-Salem Rose society Novice Award. 

Open only to persons never having won a Blue Ribbon in Arrangements.

 

Class 5: "Stars of Heaven"
Arranger’s choice of arrangement design.

 

Section D:  Miniature Traditional Arrangements

Small arrangements using miniature and/or miniflora roses. 

Eligible for the ARS Mini-Royalty Award. 

 

Class 6: "Walking in the Garden"
A mass design using all fresh plant material.

 

Class 7: "Fruit of the Tree"
A line mass design using all fresh plant material.

 

Section E:  Miniature Modern and Abstract Arrangements

Small arrangements using miniature and/or miniflora roses. 

Eligible for the ARS Mini-Artist Award. 

 

Class 8: "Fish of the Sea"
A free form design using fresh roses with fresh and/or dried plant material.

 

Class 9: "Beasts of the Earth"
An abstract design must have 2 or more abstract qualities, using fresh roses with fresh and/or dried plant material.

 

Section F:  Judges Arrangements

Open only to horticulture and arrangement judges, judging in this show. 

Eligible for the Judges’ Arrangement Award. 

 

Class 10: "The Depth of the Oceans"
Arranger’s choice of arrangement design.

 

 

Rules for Arrangements

 

1.   WHO MAY EXHIBIT, ADVANCE REGISTRATION.  The arrangement competition is open to the public. All design entries are by advance registration with, Lynn Stevens,  336-374-3589 (after 5:00 p.m.)  or e-mail:  mlstevens@RJIA.net.

 

2.   LIMITATION ON ENTRIES.  No exhibitor may enter more than one design in each class. Each entry must be the work of the exhibitor.  Each class is limited to four (4) arrangements because of available space.

 

3.   ROSES, ROSE NAMES AND CLASSIFICATION.  Outdoor grown roses of high quality should be used in all arrangements, but need not have been grown by the designer.  ROSES MUST BE NAMED ON ENTRY TAG IN ACCORDANCE WITH ARS RULES.  Arrangements without the correct rose names will be penalized.  Only roses classified as Miniatures or Mini-floras by ARS may be used in miniature arrangements.  All types of roses may be used in all other arrangements.

 

4.   TIME AND PLACE. Entries will be accepted between 6:30 am and 10:00 am. And must be placed by the exhibitor.  No entry will be accepted after 10:00am.  All arrangements may be picked up after the show.

 

5.   FRESH ROSES.  Other plant material may be used in arrangements, but FRESH ROSES must be the dominant flowers in all arrangements.  Other fresh and/or dried flowers and foliage may be used unless otherwise stated in the schedule.  Line materials may include dried, treated and painted plant materials.  Bases, accessories and underlays are allowed in all arrangement classes.

 

6.   NOVICE CLASS.  The Novice class is open only to person's who have never won a Blue Ribbon in the Rose Arrangement Division of an ARS Rose Show.  Exhibitor must state type of design on front of entry tag.

 

7.   PROHIBITED MATERIALS.  No artificial flowers, fruits, vegetables or plant material will be allowed.  Fresh plant material may not be painted or dyed.  No cut fruits or vegetables or live creatures are allowed.  No plant material on the Area or the State Conservation List is allowed.  The American Flag is not to be used as a decoration.

 

8.   STAGING OF CLASSES. Classes 1-5 will be staged in off-white niches 40" high, 31" wide, and 20" deep (including a 2” setback from the table edge).  Classes 6-10 will be staged at eye level in white niches 9" high, 9" wide, and 6" deep.  Backgrounds are permitted and must be furnished by the exhibitor.

 

9.   JUDGING AND SCALE OF POINTS.  The Arrangement Division shall be governed and judged by the current ARS rules and procedures.  The ARS standard Scale of Points will be used to judge all arrangements.  Only Judges and Clerks will be allowed on the floor during judging, and the decisions of the Judges will be final.

 

10.ARS ROSETTES AND CERTIFICATES will be awarded for winning entries scoring at least 92 points, as follows:                                 

               Royalty Award selected from Classes 1 & 2

Artist's Award selected from Classes 3 & 4

Mini-Royalty Award selected from Classes 6 & 7

Mini-Artist's Award selected from Classes 8 & 9

Winston-Salem Rose Society Novice Award selected from Classes 5

Judges Award from Class 10

Carolina District Arrangement Award – Best in Show

 

An entry composed of arranger-grown roses only is eligible for the ARS Gold, Silver, or Bronze Arrangement Certificate.  These are awarded to entries using arranger-grown roses only; scoring 92 points or higher and marked "A-G" in the upper right hand corner of the entry tag.

 

The following ARS Scale of Points will be used to judge all arrangements in this show:

Carolina District Arrangement Award

This award goes to the highest scoring entry in the show, and can be a standard or a miniature arrangement.  The decision of the Judges is final.  The perpetual trophy is given by the Carolina District and a keeper award is donated by the Winston-Salem Rose Society.
